Cold Plunge Filled Weight: What Your Floor Actually Has to Hold

Calculate water weight, tub weight and user load before placing a plunge on a deck, balcony or elevated floor.

Water weighs about 8.34 lb per US gallon. A nominal 100-gallon fill therefore adds roughly 834 lb before you count the tub, chiller plumbing, cover or user.

Use total supported load

The right planning number is tub empty weight + actual water volume + user + accessories. Then consider how that load is distributed over the footprint rather than treating it as a single point load.

Ice Barrel publishes full-weight figures around 700 lb for the 300 and roughly 886–900 lb for the 500 depending on the current source page. Plunge lists the All-In at 1,150 lb with water. Those figures are why elevated installations should be verified rather than guessed.

For balconies, decks and upper floors, use a qualified local professional when the structure’s capacity is uncertain. A calculator is not a structural approval.
