How Long Does It Take to Cool 100 Gallons From 70°F to 45°F?
A practical cooldown-time framework for a 25°F temperature drop in a 100-gallon cold plunge.
The theoretical energy removal is straightforward; real cooldown time is not. One hundred gallons of water weighs about 834 lb. Dropping it by 25°F requires removing roughly 20,850 BTU before accounting for heat leaking in from the room, sun, tub walls and plumbing.
Translate that into real equipment time
If a complete system genuinely cools at 10°F per hour under your conditions, a 25°F pull-down is roughly 2.5 hours. At 5°F per hour it is roughly 5 hours. Manufacturer system ratings provide the best starting benchmark because they include the actual heat exchanger and flow path.
Plunge lists 10–12°F per hour for the 105-gallon All-In and 8–10°F per hour for the 105-gallon Air paired with its Pro Chiller. Actual field performance can be slower when ambient temperatures are high or ventilation is poor.
Why first cooldown is different from maintenance
Once the water is cold, the chiller mainly replaces heat entering the system. A well-insulated tub with a fitted lid can therefore spend far less energy maintaining 45°F than it used pulling freshly filled water down from 70°F.
